| Wednesday July 14, 2010 | | Final 2010 Corvette Production Statistics | Discussion
| Production of the 2011 Corvette has started with cars already on the Kerbeck Lot so it time to look back at the final production statistics for the 2010 Corvette model year. The final count of Corvettes produced for MY 2010 is 12,194. That’s a decrease of 28.1% from 2009’s 16,956 production and a whopping 65.5% off the 35,310 Corvettes produced in 2008. Many will make hay out of that decrease, saying its been almost 50 years (1961 – 10,939) since Corvettes were produced in so few numbers. You won’t find us complaining here as we believe 2010 was a banner year for Corvette which included the return of the Grand Sport and one of our favorite new options – launch control! The Grand Sports were very popular in their inaugural year making up 49.6% of total Corvettes produced. The Grand Sport Coupe was the most popular model at 3,707 units (30.4%) while the regular Corvette Coupe was second at 3,054 units (25.1%). The Z06 was the least popular Corvette sold with just 518 units making up 4.3% of production. The ZR1 outsold the Z06 in its second year of production by 3 to 1. 1,577 supercharged Corvettes left Bowling Green for a total of 12.9% of Corvette production. As far as colors, the most popular single color is Black at 24%. Torch Red is second with 18.4% and when combined with Crystal Red’s 14.1%, the two reds total 32.5%. Other than colors, the numbers we received from GM were condensed into Coupe, Convertible, Z06/ZR1, although we are able to view certain model-specific RPOs like the Grand Sport’s Z51 or the 3ZR package for the ZR1. Here are the 2010 Corvette Production Statistics from GM: | Corvettes Produced | Amount | Percent | | | | | | | | | | Coupes | 3,054 | 25.1% | | | | Convertibles | 1,003 | 8.2% | | | | Grand Sport Coupes | 3,707 | 30.4% | | | | Grand Sport Convertibles | 2,335 | 19.2% | | | | Z06 | 518 | 4.3% | | | | ZR1 | 1,577 | 12.9% | | | | | _______ | _______ | | | | Total | 12,194 | 100% | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Exterior Colors | Total | Coupe | Conv | Z06/ZR1 | | | | | | | | 10U Artic White | 966 | 500 | 282 | 184 | | 17U Blade Silver | 974 | 596 | 233 | 145 | | 41U Black | 2,929 | 1,668 | 726 | 535 | | 45U Velocity Yellow | 694 | 349 | 209 | 136 | | 57U Cyber Gray | 1,699 | 955 | 357 | 387 | | 70U Torch Red | 2,249 | 1,206 | 772 | 271 | | 85U Jetstream Blue | 969 | 552 | 211 | 206 | | 89U Crystal Red | 1,714 | 935 | 548 | 231 | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Convertible Top Colors | Total | Coupe | Conv | Z06/ZR1 | | | | | | | | 35T Beige | 533 | 0 | 533 | 0 | | 37T Gray | 228 | 0 | 228 | 0 | | 41T Black | 2,555 | 0 | 2,555 | 0 | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Interior Colors & Options | Total | Coupe | Conv | Z06/ZR1 | | | | | | | | 023 Red | 253 | 124 | 55 | 74 | | 026 Ebony/Red | 610 | 364 | 246 | 0 | | 193 Ebony | 5,617 | 4,105 | 1,296 | 216 | | 195 Ebony | 1,685 | 199 | 249 | 1,237 | | 24I Ebony/Sienna | 98 | 21 | 26 | 51 | | 245 Ebony/Sienna | 98 | 21 | 26 | 51 | | 313 Ebony/LT Cashmere | 952 | 491 | 437 | 24 | | 315 Ebony/LT Cashmere | 147 | 33 | 51 | 63 | | 316 Ebony/LT Cashmere | 313 | 180 | 133 | 0 | | 785 Ebony/DK Titanium | 818 | 194 | 240 | 384 | | 843 Ebony/LT Titanium | 422 | 243 | 133 | 46 | | 846 Ebony/LT Titanium | 1,279 | 807 | 472 | 0 | | D30 Color Override | 86 | 22 | 47 | 17 | | 0B1 Embroidery Cross Flags | 1,679 | 1,033 | 646 | 0 | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Equipment Packages | Total | Coupe | Conv | Z06/ZR1 | | | | | | | | 1LT (Coupe & Conv) | 1,936 | 1,785 | 151 | 0 | | 1LZ (Z06) | 54 | 0 | 0 | 54 | | 1ZR (ZR1) | 107 | 0 | 0 | 107 | | 2LT (Coupe & Conv) | 1,045 | 831 | 214 | 0 | | 2LZ (Z06) | 193 | 0 | 0 | 193 | | 3LT (Coupe & Conv) | 5,762 | 3,458 | 2,304 | 0 | | 3LZ (Z06) | 193 | 0 | 0 | 193 | | 3ZR (ZR1) | 1,426 | 0 | 0 | 1,426 | | 4LT (Coupe & Conv) | 972 | 431 | 541 | 1 | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Transmissions | Total | Coupe | Conv | Z06/ZR1 | | | | | | | | MH3 6-Speed Manual (ZR1) | 1,577 | 0 | 0 | 1,577 | | MN6 6-Speed Manual | 5,281 | 2,341 | 845 | 2,095 | | MX0 6-Speed Auto Paddle | 6,913 | 4,420 | 2,493 | 0 | | MZ6 6-Speed Manual – GS | 2,148 | 1,468 | 680 | 0 | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Wheels | < t

| Build Your Own Engine Option Offered to Corvette Enthusiasts
Exclusive Program Lets Customers Help Create Their Own Corvette
DETROIT – For enthusiasts who want to be personally involved in creating their Corvette, Chevrolet's new Corvette Engine Build Experience allows them to literally build the engine for their new car. In what is believed to be the world's most hands-on super car program, customers who order a 2011 Corvette Z06 or ZR1 can choose an option to help assemble their cars' LS7 or LS9 engines at General Motors' Performance Build Center (PBC) in Wixom, Mich. "Corvette owners are some of the most passionate – and most involved – enthusiasts in the industry," said Jim Campbell, U.S. vice president, Chevrolet marketing. "The Corvette Engine Build Experience offers customers an unprecedented opportunity to participate, hands on, in creating the car." In addition to building their own engines, Corvette buyers can attend driving school in Arizona or Nevada, take delivery of their vehicles at the National Corvette Museum or watch their vehicles being built at the Corvette assembly plant in Bowling Green, Ky.
"In a way, this is a dream program for a Corvette customer. I would have jumped at the chance to build the 427 in my '67 'Vette, and that didn't have half of what goes into one of these modern precision engines," said Tom Stephens, GM vice chairman, Global Product Operations. "Today's LS7 and LS9 Corvette engines are pinnacle achievements in engineering, and to personally involve our customers in their final creation shows the depth of Chevrolet's commitment to make lasting connections with the customer." The Engine Build Experience is an option with a suggested retail price of $5,800. When a customer selects the PBC option for a 2011 Corvette Z06 or ZR1 and the dealer submits the order to Chevrolet, a special concierge contacts the customer to verify participation and help coordinate arrangements. While travel arrangements to and from Metro Detroit are the customer's responsibility, the Chevrolet concierge helps schedule the engine build; coordinates the customer's activities at the Performance Build Center; assists with booking local lodging and meals, and arranges local transportation.
At the PBC, the customer doesn't merely view the engine's assembly; he or she builds it under the supervision of and support from skilled technicians. When the engine is assembled, a personalized nameplate is added to the engine next to the builder's name. It is then sent to the Corvette assembly plant for installation in the customer's car. The Corvette Engine Build Experience is possible because of the hand-assembly processes used at the 100,000-square-foot PBC. Technicians hand-build the Corvette Z06's LS7 7.0L engine, the Corvette ZR1's 6.2L supercharged LS9 engine and a variation of the Corvette Grand Sport's LS3 6.2L engine. The PBC incorporates the best practices of low-volume niche manufacturers and the established quality and manufacturing standards at GM to ensure the highest-quality specialized engines. Like all engines assembled at the PBC, Engine Build Experience engines are covered by Chevrolet's five year / 100,000-mile transferable powertrain warranty.
The Engine Build experience is the latest program Chevrolet offers for Corvette owners. Other programs include: Corvette plant tour, where customers can follow their vehicle down the Bowling Green assembly line Corvette Museum delivery, where customers take delivery of their new Corvette at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green Corvette ZR1 Driving School, which offers complimentary attendance at either Bob Bondurant's Corvette Driving School in Arizona, or Ron Fellows' Corvette Performance Driving School near Las Vegas. "Simply put, no other sports car manufacturer can match the level of personal customer involvement
that Corvette offers," Campbell said. "The Corvette Engine Build Experience takes this personal involvement to an unprecedented level." | | Source: General Motors | CLICK HERE TO DISCUSS THIS STORY WITH OTHER CORVETTE ENTHUSIASTS! |
| Saturday May 1, 2010 | | Very First 2011 Corvette is a Tribute to 50th Anniversary of First Le Mans Win | Discussion
| In commemorating the 50th anniversary of Corvette’s first class win at Le Mans, GM built a very special one of one tribute to the 1960 Briggs Cunningham Corvette. VIN #00001 shares the same exterior cues including the twin stipes over the hood, roof and trunk and the #3. A special graphic on the B-pillar features a 50th Anniversary logo and then dates 1960 and 2010. We caught up with this car first on Thursday evening and promised to embargo these photos until after the unveiling. The Arctic White Corvette Z06 comes equipped with both the Z07 performance package and the CFZ black carbon fiber package. Unique is the side view mirrors painted in Cyber Gray instead of the Black that is comes on the Carbon edition. Those mirrors match the Cyber Gray wheels though so the combination of the two looks pretty cool. Museum Director Wendell Strode said the Corvette would be used as a fundraiser for the NCM. Instead of a traditional raffle or no-reserve auction, the museum is looking for a tax deductible donation of $300,000 and then the donor can purchase the Corvette at the NCM’s cost which Wendell said would be around $85,000. On Saturday morning at the Corvette Museum’s C5/C6 Bash, Corvettes at Carlisle’s Lance Miller will be hosting a siminar at the NCM on the 1960 Briggs Cunningham Corvette and his plans to take it back to the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year for the the 50th Anniversary of its historic class win. | Friday April 30, 2010 | | GM Gives 2011 Corvette Buyers More Personalization Choices | Discussion
| This afternoon, GM’s Corvette Team presented the new 2011 Corvette to several hundred owners and enthusiasts at the Corvette Museum’s C5/C6 Bash in Bowling Green. One of the themes for the 2011 rollout is that Corvette buyers will have more choices than ever to personalize their Corvettes inside and out with a host of new options. Previous options that were restricted to certain models like Magnetic Selective Ride Control are also being made available on all models. In 2011, Corvette buyers will get to choose from 10 exterior colors – the most since the C4 was being produced. All eight colors from 2010 are returning and the two new colors, Interno Orange and Supersonic Blue, will be available on all Corvette models. One new option for 2011 is that buyers will be able to select a contrasting headlamp color which will be available in Cyber Gray, Black and Blade Silver. The last few special edititon Corvettes including the Carbon and last year’s GT1 Championship Editions featured a custom color stiching option throughout the interior. This will be available on 2011 4LT, 3LZ and 3ZR option groups. The colors offered are Blue, Red or Yellow stiching. Coupe and Convertible buyers get a new wheel design available in four styles. The styles are Silver, Competition Gray, Chrome and the new Machine face which is shown above. Standard Coupe and Convertible buyers can also order the crossed-drilled brake option that was available as part last year’s Z51 option. Harlan spent time discussing are two new Six-Speed Paddle Shift features. Drivers can easily switch from paddle driving to automatic. To do so, drivers hold the “+” paddle for one second to return to auto mode. The seconbde feature is one that allows the driver to override the gear selection while in Drive Mode. The example was a driver merging onto a highway and downshifts to merge. The auto mode takes over after paddles are not used for 10 seconds. Other Updates for the 2011 Corvette: - Grand Sport available with F55 Magnetic Selective Ride Control – Includes Gen 2 tire with manual transmission
- Magnetic Selective Ride Control is available on all Corvette models for the first time
- USB port and input jack included with U3U Navigation System
- Dual Steering mode – Standard or performance modes
- Battery maintainer for those that only drive their Corvettes occassionally.
In terms of “big” news for the 2011 Corvette Z06, that cat was let out of the bag last month in Sebring with the introduction of the Z06 Carbon and the associated Z07 and CFZ packages. Tadge alluded to 2011 being the year of the Z06 as 2011 features a number of options and upgrades. Now standard on the 2011 Corvette Z06 is the new Goodyear F1 Supercar Generation 2 Tires, an aggressive dual mode exhaust featuring a updated tune and Carbon cone synchros in the transmission. For a refresher, here are the two option packages that mostly make up the Carbon edition: CFZ – Black Carbon Fiber Package - Black painted Carbon Fiber front splitter
- Black painted Carbon Fiber side rockers
- Black painted Carbon Fiber roof (saves 6-spounds)
- Body Color ZR1 style rear spoiler
Z07 Performance Package - Brembo carbon ceramic brake system
- 20 spoke competition Gray Wheels, 19×10″ Front and 20×12″ Rear
- Michelin PS2 Tires: 285/30-19 Front and 335/25-20 Rear
- Magnetic Selective Ride Control
Overall, most of the owners that we talked with are positive to the changes and the examples we saw illustrate GM’s ability to listen to their owners wants and make them happen. We’ll be uploading some video of the 2011 rollout over the next few days so stay tuned!
